100 DayIn Mrs. Novak’s Kindergarten Classroom
|
The 100th day of school is always so much fun! In
addition to the activities that I normally do for this special day, I tried
some new ones out… and they are definitely keepers!
I bought 100 linking balloons and some pumps. The children
enjoyed blowing the balloons up, and I was surprised at how quickly they were
able to do it. We tied the balloons together and strung them around the ceiling
of the classroom. What a colorful way to count to 100! We counted and tallied
each color of balloon, and talked about which color we had the most and least
of and how many we had the same number of.

We decided to dress up as if we were 100 years old. Some children came to school with gray wigs, canes, glasses, hats, and sport coats. For the children’s memory books I took a picture of each one of them standing in front of the 100 chart in the pocket chart while holding the number 100. The kids really liked this activity and it led to some neat role playing.
The last new activity that I tried this year was attaching a small white sticker to the bottom of 100 Hershey kisses and numbering them 1-100. I also incorporated the pattern red, silver, red, silver… I provided a 100 chart at the table and the children had to match the number on the bottom of the kiss with the number on the chart. Then they placed the kiss on the appropriate spot on the chart. They were excited to see that there was a pattern when they had finished putting it together.
